This course will focus on the present moment (the "here and now"). Through the use of text posts, videos and related materials, participants will take a look at the importance of the present moment during therapy and learn several techniques that can be used to help clients connect with the present moment in therapy and beyond.
After completing this course participants will be able to:
- Explain how perspective taking can be used to reconnect with the present moment.
- List 2 cues that can help a client reconnect with the present moment.
- Apply reflective listening to help a client be in touch with the present moment.
- Apply techniques to connect what happens in therapy with the client's life.
Matthieu Villatte, PhD is an author and clinical trainer living in Seattle, Washington.He was formerly Assistant Professor in clinical psychology at the University of Louisiana. He obtained his Ph.D. in France, with an emphasis on clinical behavior analysis and relational frame theory, and completed a post-doctoral fellowship at the University of Nevada, Reno under the mentorship of Steve Hayes . Matthieu is an ACBS recognized ACT trainer who has facilitated workshops focusing on clinical applications of RFT in North and South America, Australia, and Europe. He is the co-author of the first ACT manual published in French and is associate editor of the Journal of Contextual Behavior Science. His new book, Mastering the Clinical Conversation: Language as Intervention, is co-authored by Jennifer Villatte and Steve Hayes and was released by Guilford Press.
